Program Description & Goals

Students learn basic home health care, vital signs, infection control, personal hygiene, and client safety. The course builds essential workplace behavior, communication skills, and technical proficiency required for direct patient care.

Semester 1: Foundations, Safety, and Patient Care

Unit 1: Introduction to Home Health Care

- Legal and ethical conduct (Patient Rights, HIPAA)

Unit 2: Communication and Culture

- Observation, reporting, and charting changes in a patient's condition

Unit 3: Infection Control and Safety

- Standard precautions and handwashing
- Home safety hazards and emergency procedures

Unit 4: Personal Care and Hygiene

- Proper body mechanics, transferring, and positioning

Semester 2: Nutrition, Specialized Care, and Career Readiness
