Lesson - FUNCTIONS

What is a Function?

 What you should learn:

1.  Decide whether a relation between two variables represents a function.

2.  Use a function notation and evaluate functions.

3.  Find the domains of a functions.

4.  Use functions to model and solve real-life problems.

5.  Evaluate the difference quotients.

Homework orAssignment for the week of August 24-September 4, 2020

Students please read Chapter 1 on Functions.  We will discuss functions in our live zoom class.  Be prepare to answer mathematical questions regarding function in our live zoom class.  Students will be put in groups by breakout room in zoom.  You will collaborate with your classmates and prepare to discuss your solution in class using your whiteboard.  You will be given a role (i.e. leader, recorder, reporter).  Please speak clearly using your audio system and make sure that you communicate mathematical vocabulary in explaining your work (i.e. height is a function of age because...).  In addition to class work you are expected to work on these three assignments.

Assignment 1 - FUNCTIONS

Assignment 1.2 Part 1

Reading Assignment Chapter 1.2 Part 2 Interval Notation

PRACTICE EXERCISES - Interval Notation

Your assignment number 1 is due on Friday September 4, 2020 at 5:00 pm. This will give you ample time to evaluate functions.  Assignment 1.2 part 1 and 2 are due on September 11, 2020 Friday. To clarify some concept in interval notation, I uploaded three YouTube videos for you to watch.  These are short videos and it will provide you a review of inequalities and interval notation.  Just click the link and it will open in a new window.  Happy watching.
